João Paulo Pereira

I have an insatiable curiosity for the intersection of bio-mechanics and energetics. It led me to pursue wisdom from various lineages and teachers since my early teens in the mid 90's. My practice has integrated my research with asana, pranayama, mudra, thai massage, ayurveda, water therapy & dance, acroyoga, contact improv, and all-things movement/healing/consciousness.

Since 2001, my teachings have aimed at inviting the ideal balance of challenge and rejuvenation. My practice is slow-paced, alignment and breath focused, and strengthening in nature. My own research, which I call BASA (breath, awareness, strength, and alignment), has playfulness as a core value. It holds in high regard spacious joint alignment with imagery so folks can sense pranic pathways in the body. My teachings welcome modifications, limitations, challenges, and space for somatic insight/exploration.

Find me off the mat dancing around the Bay, rock climbing, facilitating warm water experiences/rituals, or in Asia holding yoga therapy trainings.
