About João

João has an insatiable curiosity for the intersection of bio-mechanics and energetics. It led him to pursue wisdom from various lineages and teachers since his early teens in the mid 90's. His practice has integrated his research with asana, pranayama, mudra, thai massage, ayurveda, water therapy & dance, acroyoga, contact improv, and all-things movement/healing/consciousness.

Since 2001, his teachings have aimed at inviting the ideal balance of challenge and rejuvenation. His practice is slow-paced, alignment and breath focused, and strengthening in nature. His own research, which he calls BASA (breath, awareness, strength, and alignment), has playfulness as a core value. It holds in high regard spacious joint alignment with imagery so folks can sense pranic pathways in the body. His teachings welcome modifications, limitations, challenges, and space for somatic insight/exploration.

Find João off the mat dancing around the Bay, rock climbing, facilitating warm water experiences/rituals, or in Asia holding yoga therapy trainings.
