Embodied Philosophy: Yoga On and Beyond Our Mats with Disha Gupta

  • Green Yogi Telegraph 2807 Telegraph Avenue Berkeley, CA, 94705 United States (map)

Have you ever left a yoga class feeling a shift beyond the physical practice? Moments that feel like glimmers - a quieter mind, a deeper breath, a greater sense of presence, or simply feeling more like yourself? Many of us sense that yoga offers something beyond movement, even if we don’t always have a way to name or fully understand it.

Traditionally, asana is one limb of yoga. The physical practice is meant to be a doorway into a wider system that includes how we relate to the mind, our habits, our attention, and the way we relate to others. Yet in most modern settings, our exposure to yoga is often limited to the physical practice itself.

This offering is an invitation to experience that fuller dimension of yoga - so you can access those moments of glimmer more often in daily life.

What to expect

Our gatherings begin with an introduction to the philosophical theme we'll explore that day - an inquiry to embody.

We  then proceed into the first half of the session. This includes a mindful whole-body asana practice, paced by you and your breath, where we allow the wisdom of our bodies and minds to reveal what the philosophy points to.

In the second half, Disha leads a dharma talk that delves deeper into the yogic teaching around the theme. Using Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita and other classical texts, we discuss how to integrate the teaching into our lived experience through personal reflections and community conversations.

This is a monthly gathering - a space to unwind, move, reflect, and reconnect, and enter the ancient yet timeless world of yogic philosophy in a way that is embodied, experiential, and relevant to modern life.

This gathering is for anyone who has ever wondered, "Why does yoga feel like more than the poses?"

You may especially enjoy this series if you:

  • Sense there's something deeper to yoga and want to explore it.

  • Feel a disconnect between your inner experience and the life you're living.

  • Long for practices that support not only physical well-being but emotional and mental clarity.

  • Enjoy thoughtful conversation, self-inquiry, and learning alongside others.

  • Want yoga philosophy presented in an accessible, embodied, and practical way - no prior knowledge required.

You'll leave with...

  • a quieter nervous system and a more grounded sense of being

  • a felt sense of connection between body, breath, and mind

  • insight into patterns that create disconnect between your inner and outer worlds

  • an embodied understanding of yoga as a way of living

  • reflections that support bringing more alignment into daily life

  • a sense of connection and shared presence within a small, supportive community

Whether you've practiced yoga for years or are simply curious about its deeper teachings, you are warmly welcome.

About Disha

Disha is a yoga teacher (RYT-500) whose teaching weaves together mindful movement, contemplative inquiry, and the timeless wisdom of yoga philosophy. Having grown up in India, yoga was part of her familial and cultural landscape long before it became her profession. Years of dedicated practice, advanced teacher trainings, and ongoing study have deepened that early connection into a lived and evolving practice.

Disha invites students to experience philosophy not just intellectually but through the body, breath, reflection, and community. She is deeply passionate about making the deeper dimensions and values of yoga accessible - supporting students in cultivating a more integrated sense of self, where our inner and outer worlds begin to align.
